Rise Above Mine
American Gemstones was introduced to Amanda Atkins through another gemstone mine owner and mutual friend, Chris Painter. Of course, we had known of her exploits on a popular mining adventure show and were intrigued by the high altitude mining adventures on Mt Antero.
We have yet to make the trek to Colorado and up the mountain to Rise Above Mine. However, we do get a chance to hang out each year with Amanda and other gemstone miners and artists in early February at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. During one such year Amanda brought out a whopping 810 carat beautiful Topaz she had mined several years before. American Gemstones saw a great educational opportunity and acquired the gemstone rough. BTW: We’re still not sure if Amanda can “appreciate” what we did to her beautiful Topaz. 🙂
