Obsidious
- GEMSTONE: Smoky Quartz 65.35 carat, fantasy cut
- ARTIST: Darryl Alexander, Arizona
- MINE: Hallelujah Junction, Nevada
- MUSEUM: Unassigned
Insidious is “stealthy or crafty”. Obsidious fits these terms. This Smoky Quartz is reminiscent of the volcanic glass gemstone called Obsidian. On a quick glance it may be taken for Black Jade, Basinite, Black Onyx, Black Tourmaline, or other black gemstones. All can be beautiful gemstones when cut well. Smoky Quartz will have it’s own character and presentation depending on the artist and the quality of the rough.
American Gemstones helps facilitate an opportunity to explore the world of North American gemstones in order for the public to discover new or different ways to appreciate various types of gemstones. Certainly there are many more gemstones we hope to present following our own “discoveries” at various mining locations we have visited, or are yet to experience.
With pleasure, we share what we can.
