Caught in a vortex of upward motion, the copper shiller within Updraft suggests movement of a flame as it turns. This beautiful Oregon Sunstone from Sunstone Butte mine helped spark the idea of an American gemstone display at the UA Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum. American Gemstones decided “the time to hesitate is through” and needed an advocate who could help “light the fire”. The curator of Somewhere in the Rainbow, Shelly Sergent, stepped in as our reliable first responder and connected us to the University of Arizona. As they say; “the rest is history” (in the making).

Shelly is an inspiration to an evolving vision for American Gemstones. We seek to compliment and emulate some of the many ways Shelly and Somewhere in the Rainbow serve to advocate, educate and provide support to the world of colored gemstones. Guiding the American Gemstone Legacy collection to the UA Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum is only one way Shelly has helped. We asked her tell us about the various impacts of Somewhere in the Rainbow within the colored stone industry:

“Xxxxxxx”

We are lucky to have Shelly and the owners of Somewhere in the Rainbow as leaders and staunch supporters of the colored gemstone industry.
