• GEMSTONE:        Oregon Sunstone, 17.96 Carat Fantasy Cut
  •  ARTIST:               Darryl Alexander, Arizona
  •  MINE:                  Sunstone Butte Mine, Oregon
  •  MUSEUM:           UA Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum, Tucson, Arizona

You might think this gemstone received its name because of a shape similar to some such reported objects. No, that’s just too obvious. However, this Oregon Sunstone is absolutely a UFO (Uniquely Faceted Object).

While out mining Oregon Sunstone, Darryl Alexander found some gemstone rough with similar coloration. He called this combination of colors “lemon/lime”. And…how quenching it is to see such material sparkle in the sun.

We generally name most of our American Gemstones in ways that are meant to invoke fun, because it is never work if you truly love what you do. American Gemstones is lucky to present such beautiful gemstones from all of the hard, hard “fun” put in by the miners and artists. All kidding aside, we know that the production of even one spectacular gem is difficult and rare. American Gemstones would not be possible without the passionate effort from all involved. Our thanks!
