American Gemstones works together with notable artists to present unique cuts and styles in gemstone artistry for public enjoyment and education. Gemstones displayed and/or donated by American Gemstones are generally one-of-kind artist creations but, in order to more fully appreciate any type gemstone, it is good to see more traditional cuts.

For this reason American Gemstones also has commercially cut gemstones within the collection. Typically, the commercially cut gemstones displayed are round, concave cut, faceted stones… but not always. It is also important to note, the commercially cut stones are not typically cut by American artists (an exception we make in order to enable a wider range of gems within American Gemstones).

Some commercially cut gemstones are surprising (faceted opaque opals for example). These types of gems are produced by American Gemstones as an experiment about the versatility and visual impact of such faceted gems. By faceting some gemstones which are typically produced as beads, carvings and cabochons we provide the public, artists, miners and American Gemstones with additional education on the diversity and versatility of such gemstones.

In this case, American Gemstones presents a round faceted, shiller Oregon Sunstone that was commercially cut. We have to say…we like the results. .
