Reel Mine
Reel Mine was rumored to have once been operated by Tiffany’s but is now owned and operated by James Hall. This location is famous for bouquet-like specimens of amethyst and, while the specimens are the primary focus of the mining operation, great gemstone cutting rough is also found.
American Gemstones has had the pleasure of spending the day with James. Before he brought in heavy equipment, all mining was done by hand. We spent a day with jack-hammer and pry bar in hand chasing Amethyst pockets. Since this is a private mining operation, we hope to have an invitation to go back and see what progress James has made with the equipment he brought in. Regardless of the equipment, it is always a methodically slow process by hand to extract the Amethyst specimens and gemstone rough from each pocket uncovered.
We are fortunate to present “XXXX” and Grape-a-licious, two stunning examples of gemstones cut from the hard work at Reel Mine.
