North Star

  • GEMSTONE:        Amethyst 69.95 Carat, Fantasy Cut
  •  ARTIST:               Darryl Alexander, Arizona
  •  MINE:                  Hallelujah Junction, Nevada
  •  MUSEUM:           Unassigned

On top of a mountain near a highway intersection known as Hallelujah Junction (in California) there are Amethyst mines producing combinations of forms and colors in smoky quartz and amethyst. It is a rugged ride up a (very) steep and washed out dirt road. Once on top, everything about the place is special. The views, the mining and the company; all complemented by an incredible starry night sky. It is as though the North Star itself could be plucked from the sky and then transported into an unbelievable gemstone from this captivating setting.

Darryl Alexander was up on this mountain and helped mine the rough for this gemstone and cut the North Star. With wisps of dark and light, it preserves and shares the feeling of the sky at night at Hallelujah Junction.

Darryl has traveled to a number of mines and has this to say about the adventure in mining gemstone rough material for his use:
