Event Horizon

  • GEMSTONE:        Smoky Quartz 182.20 Carat Carving
  •  ARTIST:               Nick Alexander, Arizona
  •  MINE:                  Hallelujah Junction, Nevada
  • MUSEUM:            Unassigned

The turbulent downward spiral of this dark smoky quartz carving has the impression of being drawn into a black hole. American Gemstones mined this gemstone rough during a trip to Hallelujah Junction. Nick Alexander was one of the artists on this journey. We can’t say for sure who actually found this gemstone, but American Gemstones was lucky enough to acquire it for Nick to carve.

Polishing the number of curved and twisted surfaces on Event Horizon was a huge task. We’re sure Nicks nerves were drawn down into “nothingness” before he was through. From what we know, Nick does a great deal of his carving work with a fairly limited number of tools and so we asked Nick to describe the tools he uses:

xxxxx. If you have an interest in gemstone cutting or carving many artists offer help, tools and/or training. Our tool selection is Cutting Edge Supplies.

American Gemstones does not make endorsements or recommendations of any kind. Our site is informational only. We do, however, appreciate your contacting the artists, mines and museums.
