Go With The Flow
- GEMSTONE: Oregon Sunstone, 97.2 Carat Carving
- ARTIST: Larry Woods, Texas
- MINE: Sunstone Butte Mine, Oregon
- MUSEUM: UA Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum, Tucson, Arizona
Larry Woods carved this beautiful green Oregon Sunstone from gem rough mined at Sunstone Butte Mine. We haven’t had the opportunity to mine Oregon Sunstone with him. We have, however, been on a mining trip to Hallelujah Junction with Larry and a group of gemstone artists. During our stay in a small town we ventured out onto a large lake nearby. Although it had been quite a number of years, Larry decided he wanted to water ski. There were a number of people on the pontoon boat and a lack of sufficient horsepower but Larry still managed to get out of the water for a short bit. He played guitar on the back porch at night and generally would; you know, “go with the flow”.
Larry is a national multi-award winning gemstone artist. In Go with the Flow he demonstrates his keen eye for carving, but he is also has won awards with his faceted gemstone cutting as well. The many personalities and visions of American gemstone cutters allow us to enjoy the results of a dynamic and evolving environment of gemstone artistry. Getting out to mines with our artist and mining friends makes what we do at American Gemstones not only possible, but also a fun and exciting undertaking.
